Exam Registration Photo Guide

Prepare compliant photos for civil service exams, college entrance exams, and professional certification tests.

Common exam photo specifications

Exam registration systems are notorious for having strict photo requirements. A single pixel off can cause the system to reject your upload. Understanding the common patterns can save you hours of frustration.

Most Chinese exam systems require: JPG or JPEG format, file size between 10 KB and 200 KB, pixel dimensions around 295 × 413 or 390 × 567, and a white, blue, or red background depending on the exam type.

Step-by-step preparation

1. Take a front-facing photo with even lighting and no glasses (many exam systems prohibit glasses).

2. Use the Image Resizer to set the exact pixel dimensions required. Enter the width and height in pixels manually.

3. Use the Image Compressor to adjust the file size to the required range. If the system says 'file must be 10–200 KB', set the target to 150 KB for safety.

4. Use the Format Converter if the system requires a specific format like JPG. Convert PNG or WebP photos to JPG.

5. Use the File Compliance Checker before uploading to catch any issues early.

Background color requirements

White background: Most common for civil service exams (公务员考试) and professional certifications. RGB values around (255, 255, 255).

Blue background: Common for college entrance exams and some professional exams. RGB values around (67, 142, 219) for standard blue.

Red background: Used for some specific certifications and ID photos. RGB values around (255, 0, 0) for pure red.

If your photo has the wrong background, take a new photo against the correct color rather than trying to edit the background digitally — most exam systems can detect edited backgrounds.
