How to Split and Merge PDF Files
Learn to split large PDFs into smaller files and combine multiple documents — all in your browser, no upload needed.
When to split a PDF
Many online portals have file size limits for PDF uploads, often 2 MB, 5 MB, or 10 MB. If your PDF exceeds the limit, you need to split it into smaller parts.
You might also need to extract specific pages from a large document. For example, extracting pages 3–5 from a 50-page report to submit only the relevant section.
Common scenarios: splitting a scanned multi-page document into individual pages, extracting a certificate from a combined file, or breaking a large report into chapter-sized chunks.
How to use the PDF tools
To split a PDF: Open the Split PDF tool, upload your file, select the pages you want to extract, and click Split. You will get a new PDF containing only the selected pages.
To merge PDFs: Open the Merge PDF tool, upload all the PDF files you want to combine, arrange them in the correct order by dragging, and click Merge. The combined PDF keeps the original quality of each file.
Both tools work entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your computer — no upload to any server.
Tips for large PDF files
If a PDF is very large (over 50 MB), your browser may take longer to process it. Try splitting it into halves first, then process each half separately.
Before merging, check that all source PDFs have the same page orientation. Mixing portrait and landscape pages in one document can cause display issues.
Use descriptive filenames for split files so you can easily identify them later. For example, 'report_part1_of_3.pdf' instead of 'split_output.pdf'.
